I am often asked about how to engage employees from locations outside of the corporate headquarters. 'Be Shameless' and Four Other Tips to Strengthen Your Employee Communication shares ideas from a 2006 Best Boss on how to maintain a company's cultural values in a virtual workplace across multiple locations. The commentary discussed five ideas to ensure communication remains strong:

  • Listen – Take action on the low hanging fruit, demonstrate that the employees are being listened to
  • Be inquisitiveContinuously listen, read, and talk to various sources to get new ideas
  • Be shameless – When you find ideas, take and adopt them as your own, and implement them ASAP
  • Be relentless – Try new things, monitor them, and either drop them if they are not working or add them to your culture
  • Be creative – Adjust your ideas to your audience. The audio clip in the post shares an excellent example of how they creatively provided their Wisconsin workforce with a different benefit than their Florida workforce
